I still don't get the whole hoopla about J. Dilla. While it's tragic that the dude died so young, he is not as dope as people pretend. There, I said it.

you are not alone...i could say the same about madlib and 9th wonder. dont get me wrong, i like a lot of their stuff, i even love some of it. but there is plenty of good-but-not-nearly-as-good-as-people-make-it-out-to-be stuff in their catalogue...

exactly, two more names people pretend their shish don't smell.

I mean, they are all hit-and-miss producers. Even before he changed his name from Jay Dee to the super corny J. Dilla, he did some stinkers. like, can anybody say "The Love Movement".

and while we're at it: 88 Keys has some ridiculously wack tracks!

not to hate, but this reminds me of the way Tupac is treated now. I mean, I've been around when he was still alive and released stuff. And weren't it not for his soup opera lifestyle, there would have never been that much press on him. Man, when his first album came out, he was still treated as "that dancer from Digital Underground videos". people cared about him back then, but not in a second coming of christ type of way, as you could believe if you watch documentaries on him today.

I guess that's the van gogh way of career.

the love movement had some heat....you smokin!

i agree tho, i was feenin over early jay dee beats (slum, etc), but his output in the past few years was meager at best with regards to the level of heat his beats brought.

madlib on the other hand, is even worse, how in the hell does this cat get so much props?

this mca album is hot garbage, dayum, what happened!

I dunno, I think J. Dilla, Madlib, 9th Wonder and 88 Keys are all super tight!

Actually, this was on the De La Soul mixtape that came out a year or 2 ago. And it was my favorite tune on that too. But I think J Dilla's version was flipped a lil bit different.

alright, spoken like a true artist that has gotten his fair share of suspicious reviews.

well, I used to have a career in this, check out www.urbansmarts.com. I did have a reputation of being a harsh critic too. while some couldn't deal with it (considering the infamous The Alliance diss song about me), others actually seeked my opinion, because they knew that I wouldn't sugar coat things. if anything, I actually got slack for some reviews, because I would only describe the music and not judge it. people do want you to tell them if you like it or not. it surprised me back then too.
