so i am trying to pick up a lot of cd's from back in the day that i never bought because i was so young.

today i got the following cd's...

- apache "apache" (1993)
this was released on tommy boy music. looks like he was down with naughty by nature and queen latifah. featured beats from a tribe called quest, large professor and diamond d. plus it has the hip hop classic "i need a gangsta bitch".

- all city "metropolis gold" (1998)
brooklyn duo down with onyx w/ beats from pete rock, dj premier and rockwilder.

- queen latifah "black reign" (1993)
has the songs "just another day" and "u.n.i.t.y.", nuff said.

- a tribe called quest "peoples instinctive travels and the paths of rhythm" (1990)
call me young, stupid or whatever but i didn't realize tribe had 2 cd's before "midnight marauders".

back in, damn, when was it? 2003, 2004? anyway, back when I visited Fisher in Florida, I bought so many second hand classic rap CDs, I don't think I ever gotten through listening to them all. I just loved all those stores that didn't understand that they were selling some collectors items for a couple of bucks. loved it!!!

back in early 2005 me and J-Zone talked a lot about old releases and he gave me some insane suggestions. some really dope records among them, of groups from the early 90s that flew under the radar. I remember us discussing them on the old Domination board. I still have them all, but they are in the basement now. oh how have times changed.

anywho, as for that list, I must say I never gotten into the All City CD that much. there was some ski production on there, if I'm not mistaken... or wait, I think that was another group that came out during the same period... anyway, was never my favorite. "U.N.I.T.Y." is a classic, the first Quest album was dope and the Apache album was okay. it's dope to have if you want to have an elaborate collection, but it's no must have.

I think overall, the Tribe release is the only good one you got their.

I'm sure the other CD's have its good stuff but nothing really stands out to me.

Apache was a true one-hit wonda! All City had about 5 good jawns, the rest got caught up with that wanna-be Bad Boy sound. But kids got mad talent....Onyx crew. Queen Latifah has some aight jawns up on that. Tribe was classic, but the 2nd and 3rd CDs was their mad classics!

Word, I remember when I heard their first joint "Metrotheme" I think it was on Stretch Armstrong's old show that he had on Sunday night on Hot 97, haha. Ill joint!

Haha, yeah that was right in between the hurricane experience right? I think that was '04. Yeah you were hitting those used CD stores up and down the east coast like it was a diggin in the crates mission!
