Lord Finesse: Rare Selections EP Vol. 1

This first of two exclusive Lord Finesse EPs, features SIX previously unreleased tracks and alternate versions recorded between 1991 and 1993!

A collector’s dream and a D.I.T.C. essential, this EP was painstakingly created to give the fans the records that they have been requesting for years.

Restored and mastered to the highest quality, these versions finally make their way to 12” vinyl and like the rest of the series, this EP is limited only to this 300 pressed vinyl.

Out of the 300, only 150 copies will be available for worldwide mail order, so please get your pre-orders in early to avoid missing this opportunity, as this record will not be repressed!

All songs are produced by Lord Finesse (except where noted) and The Funky Technician himself adds some insight into the background of this incredible unearthed treasure!

Lord Finesse says:

Side A

Big L – Unexpected Flavor (Prod. by Large Professor. Co-produced by Lord Finesse.)

“This beat for “Unexpected Flavor” was originally a remix for “Isn’t He Something” off the Lord Finesse release “The Return Of The Funkyman” Remixed by Large Professor, but Warner Brothers opted not to use it.
So while doing Lifestyles Of the Poor & Dangerous, Big L decided to use the track for his album, but the song never made the cut for the album”. (1991)

Lord Finesse – Praise The Lord (Diamond D’s Mix)

“This was the original version for the release “The Return Of The Funkyman” Produced by Diamond, but due to sample clearance issues the song was to be redone for the commercial release.
The scratches were done by 1990 NMS Champion Steve D”. (1991)

Lord Finesse – I Like My Girls with A Boom (Original Version)

“This is just an alternate version of the commercial release that includes scratches from the Humpty Dance song that couldn’t get cleared for the commercial release.
The scratches were also done by Steve D”. (1991)

Side B

Notorious BIG – Come On (Demo Version)

“This is an original alternate Studio take of “Come On” originally done for the Notorious BIG “Ready To Die” LP featuring a different production arrangement and slightly different lyrics by Sadat X.
This song would eventually be changed numerous times before its commercial release”. (1993)

Lord Finesse – Hey Look At Shorty (Original Version)

“This is the original version done for “The Return Of The Funkyman”, but it would be later changed to a different version used for the commercial release”. (1991)

Lord Finesse – Fat For The 90’s (Alternate Beat)

“This song was actually done about 4 – 5 different times, but this particular version just didn’t fit the feel of the album and was redone a few more times before a version was chosen for the commercial release”. (1991)

I love Lord Finesse, but this is like the 148th release of his 'vaults' stuff. how much stuff does the dude have locked away? he give 2pac a run for the title...

none the less, I kinda like the fact that some artists really go all out to get their stuff to the fans. then limiting it to a 300 piece vinyl, I'm not so sure about that...

But did you notice the price of that - about 120-130 USD for a piece!!
I understand that making these kinda releases probably make more money to these artists - I'm not sure, but why else they would do it like that ?
I definitelly would like to see a nice CD release as well - the vaults rule!
Just sell these 300 12"s and release it as a CD after that to all the others - I'm sure these collectors who bought that vinyl don't mind - they probably hate CDs anyway, but the rest of us will pay him some extra!
